Our expert Ryukyu Glass supplier has partnered with Okinawa’s largest recycling company. The recycler crushes and collects window glass from scrapped vehicles. The recycled glass is then transformed into rock glass and shot glass by the hands of Ryukyu Glass artisans.
The history of recycled glass being used in this manner dates back to post-war Okinawa. After WWII, there were limited resources and the traditional method of handmade glass known as Ryukyu Glass saw its restart via recycled glass from vehicles, beer and liquor bottles, etc. much of which came by way of U.S. military consumption.
Nowadays, this new Ryukyu Glass series pays tribute to that history by using glass from scrapped vehicles. This unique product, "MADO" (window) glass, is a new project that finds creative ways to utilize resources.
